Youth Activities (Sheri Goff) – Sheri was not present, but she submitted a report which was read by Jan Fritz, Recording Secretary. Photos speak for themselves, they say. Her report is a photo essay of the enjoyment of working with Girl Scouts on a badge. First session with this troop of 11- and 12-year-olds was learning the parts of a flower and drawing them in a journal using flowers plucked from the library grounds where they met. They also planted seeds that day in compostable mini pots that could later be put right into the ground. Finally, they made old-fashioned sachets with dried flowers and herbs and a few drops of oil wrapped in vintage handkerchiefs. Their second session for the Flowers Badge was a Floral Design Workshop. Kay Yniguez, their incoming PCGC President, taught the basics of design and the girls went to work! The leaders were astounded by the girls’ creativity. The containers used were Dollar Tree margarita glasses. Weis Markets donated carnations and alstroemeria plus greens and baby’s breath. A fun and productive couple of hours! Sheri can put you in touch with a Girl Scout troop in your area through the central organization.
